According to the results of the research of the Internet of Things Observatory PoliMi, in 2020 in Italy the Internet of Things market will be 6 billion euros, of which 505 million euros represented by the Smart Home, also thanks to the effects of Ecobonus and Bonus Domotica.

Data on the IoT market in Italy, with particular reference to home automation
According to the results of the research by the Internet of Things PoliMi Observatory, in 2020 the Internet of Things market in Italy stood at €6 billion, of which €505 million represented by the Smart Home, also thanks to the effects of Ecobonus and Bonus Domotica, which pushed sales of smart boilers, thermostats and air conditioners. Security solutions such as video cameras, sensors for doors and windows and connected locks maintain first place in terms of market share (21%) with 105 million euros (although marking a 30% drop compared to 2019). On the other hand, the growth of smart home speakers continues, hooking security solutions in first place, with a value of €105 million (+10%), or 21% of the market. Boilers, thermostats and air conditioners connected for the management of heating and air conditioning have benefited from the incentives of Superbonus and Ecobonus, marking a growth of 15% with sales of 75 million euros, equal to 15% of the market. More than two-thirds of Italian consumers have heard of smart home at least once (69%, +1%), with a higher level of knowledge among 18-34 year olds (82%) and among users who are more familiar with technologies (89%). Also growing are the percentage of users who own at least one item (43%, +1%) and the use of smart features (19% have increased use, 13% have decreased it).
This is a market in continuous evolution, in which the 5G could play the role of a true consolidator and normalizer, improving interoperability between different IoT devices that can be integrated into a home environment, contributing to a further optimization of the smart-home experience.
